I'm glad Barry Paschal hasn't lost his vitriol toward the Democratic Party and that he wasted no time in voicing it.
His Sunday column opined, "All the Obama supporters' giddy jubilation aside, editorial cartoonist Eric Allie puts it [Obama's election] into proper perspective. He caricatures two newspaper pages side by side, one from 2004, the other from 2008. In the first it says "Bush Wins 51 percent, Country Divided." The second says "Obama Wins 52 percent, Country United."
Proper perspective? In 2004, Bush won by electoral votes contested in court. In 2008, Obama won by more than 200 non-contested electoral votes. If winning by 200 non-contested electoral votes ain't country united, what is?
To Paschal's comment, "...as he [Obama] undergoes on-the-job training...," I ask, "Isn't that what Bush underwent in 2000?" Every president undergoes on-the-job training. Reagan did. Clinton did.
I thought both McCain and Obama want and what we need in this great country of ours is to stop all this derision - you know: reach across the aisle.
But what do I know; I'm just one old guy, trying to leave a better place for society.
