Augusta Christian's eagerly awaited rematch with Hammond School didn't live up to its billing.

The teams met in last year's SCISA Class AAA state title game, with Hammond leaving as state champions.

On Friday, the Lions had a shot at revenge and a region title as they traveled to play the Skyhawks to close the regular season.

But Hammond jumped on Augusta Christian early and rolled to a 42-0 win.

Augusta Christian quarterback William Banks threw for 125 yards and ran for 69 to lead the Lions.

The Lions (8-3, 3-1) will play host to Wilson Hall on Friday in a first round playoff game.

Evans stays perfect

Evans sweated for two quarters Friday before pulling away for a 35-12 win over Cross Creek to remain unbeaten.

The Knights will play host to Richmond Academy on Friday for a shot at a perfect regular season. Coach Marty Jackson's team has already secured the top seed for Region 3-AAAA.

Evans (9-0) led the Razorbacks 7-6 at halftime.

Knights running back Jonathan Finch scored on touchdown runs of 47 and 45 yards in the third quarter. Quarterback Troy Griffith connected with Justin Black on a 70-yard touchdown pass as the Knights pulled away.

Finch had 217 yards rushing and Griffith passed for 142 yards and ran for a touchdown.
