Aquatic center would benefit too few residents

Sorry, but we cannot support the proposed Columbia County aquatic and tennis center because it will benefit so few in our county. After all, not everyone swims or plays tennis.

Who really will benefit? Those who live within five miles or those who live more than 28 miles one way?

Those of us who live south of Interstate 20 also pay taxes and still have dirt streets, no cell phone coverage, blighted and abandoned structures, and outdated and crumbling streets.

This doesn't include the fact that people have to wait outside no matter what the weather because our court facility has no adequately sized or secured waiting area and leaks heavily when it rains.

Yet we are being asked to financially support another lavish county facility that most in our community will likely not be able to afford the admission or the expenses to drive so far.

Finally, if the county wants to raise money for projects, then let's be fair about it and not concentrate so much into such a small area. Instead, share with other areas of the county who have much less already.
