By bringing a can of food to Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat at Patriots Park gymnasium, children can provide food for the hungry while enjoying a safe trick-or-treating environment.

People representing area businesses will pass out candy to costumed children.

A can a of food per child will gain admission into the event, which will be from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The canned goods will be donated to Gold Harvest Food Bank and Columbia County Cares.

"Last year, we collected 1,158 pounds of canned goods, and this year we hope to collect even more," said Liz Stockstill, a Columbia County events specialist.

"This year, at Trick or Treat So Others Can Eat, we will have various businesses around the CSRA providing candy for the children, as well as inflatable rides, free hot dogs, free ice cream, and other goodies," Stockstill said.

Stockstill also said there will be a door prize drawing, and that it is free to sign up.

The county still is seeking vendors to pass out candy to children.
