One word described how Christina Perry felt about being named Evans High School's 2008 Homecoming Queen Friday.

"Extravagant," the senior said.

Though rain fell most of Friday, the weather cleared up just in time for the 10 candidates to take their place on the football field at halftime during the Knights' game vs. Hephzibah.

"I was just ready for everything to go on," she said.

Perry, who was escorted by her father, the Rev. Roscoe Perry, was crowned by Evans' 2007 Homecoming queen, Chloe Kirby.

The newly-crowned queen is a member of the Evans High Student Council, Teenage Democrats, the Buddy Club, the Evans High School Marching Band and the Gospel Choir.

Perry said she's not completely sure why she was named homecoming queen, but felt her nice personality had something to do with it.

Regardless of the reason she was chosen, Perry said she appreciated her inclusion.

"It's just the whole experience, just actually being on the court," she said. "A lot of people don't get to do that."

Perry plans to attend Georgia State University and study education.

First-runner up Danielle Kohberger said she felt "blessed" to be a member on the court.

"I think the best part has been getting to mingle with the rest of the Queens Court and the Kings Court," she said. "It's been a great experience."

She said she initially had some worries about the stormy weather.

"Originally, we were going to have to do it in the gym, but the weather cleared up," she said. "It was really a blessing from God that this happened, because we all were really worried about it."

Kohberger was escorted by her father, Ed Kohberger. She is a member of Beta Club, the Renaissance Team, the Superintendent's Advisory Council, Captain of the Relay for Life Team and executive committee chairperson of student council.

Sereen Ali was named second-runner up. She is a member of the Interact Club, student council and the Renaissance Team. She plans to study pre-medicine at the University of Georgia.

Other homecoming candidates included Brittany Gaylor, Brittany Matthews, Anna Mullikin, Brittany Murray, Traycie Pittman, Nicole Thigpen and Shannin Wright.
