Lakeside High School will serve as the battleground as rockers from Columbia County high schools showcase their musical talent.

Battle of the Bands will take place from 7-10 p.m. Nov. 8 in Lakeside High's Commons Area. The show will feature six bands performing one 30-minute set each.

At least one member of each band must attend a Columbia County school to participate.

"There are a lot of talented musicians here," said Don Clauson, an event coordinator. "It's kind of our way of giving them a little bit of a springboard."

Clauson said four bands -- Wake at Sunset, Distorted Frequencies, Street Bandit and Roselyn -- have already signed up for the show, so slots for two bands remain.

Admission tickets cost $5 and tickets can be used as votes for one of the six bands.

The entry fee for each band costs $25. The band that receives the most votes wins the money from all entry fees.

Each band's lyrics are reviewed before the show begins, Clauson said.

"They have to provide us with the lyrics of the songs they'll be doing, because we have to check them over to make sure there's nothing violent or inappropriate language," he said.

"It's a lot of fun," he said. "Even though the music may not be your cup of tea, there is a lot of really good talent in high schools here."

Lakeside High usually holds the competition twice each year as a fundraiser, but last spring, the school was forced to cancel the event because of too many conflicting activities, Clauson said.

The future of the 2009 spring show will depend on the type of feedback received from the fall show and proper timing, he said.
