An Augusta physician and author will be in Columbia County on Saturday to speak about women's hormonal issues.

Dr. Ron Eaker, an OB-GYN, will blend his medical experiences with his Christian beliefs to address hormonal topics starting at 8:30 a.m. at West Acres Baptist Church on Gibbs Road in Evans.

"He's teaching women how to deal with their hormonal issues," said event coordinator Sarah Gains, from Ambassadors Community Organization Inc. "That's something that we are designed to go through by Scripture."

The speech, Real Talk for Real Life, will be held as a fundraiser for the Ambassadors, a faith-based group that aids inner city families in Richmond County.

Eaker has written Fat Proof Your Family and A Woman's Guide to Hormone Health.

"He's going to talk about things that we can eat to help with our hormone issues that we don't even realize," Gains said.

The seminar will consist of a continental breakfast, a question-and-answer session and a book signing at the end of Eaker's speech.

Door prizes will include two signed copies of Eaker's books, gift baskets and gift certificates.

"We're hoping that they'll take away biblical thoughts, and really go and search the Scripture and see where Dr. Eaker is getting his information from," Gains said.

The event isn't just targeted at women, she said.

"Men need to understand these hormonal and menopausal things that their wives or girlfriends are going through because it affects the whole household," she said.

Tickets cost $12 in advance and $17 at the door.
