In its continuing effort to find new ways to inspire children to read, the Columbia County Library is always seeking performers for children's programs.

The children's department will hold auditions Thursday for entertainers interested in creating a program geared toward children.

Musicians, authors, puppeteers and the like are invited to audition, starting at 2 p.m.

"We have people come into the library looking to work with children all the time, and we thought this was a way for us to see them all at once," said Pam Link, the head of the children's department at the library.

Link said the library will pay for background checks on all the performers.

"We feel like if they are working with children they need a background check," she said.

Though library staffers typically conduct story times, there are many programs, such as the after-school program, where the performers would be helpful, Link said.
