A magical scarefest combining the works of classic literature and frightening tricks will take place Thursday at the Columbia County Library.

Magician Chad Crews will present the Authors of Mystery and Horror Show at 6:30 p.m.

Crews plans to magically complement works by Robert Louis Stevenson, H.G. Wells and other prominent fiction authors.

"The whole thing is designed to get the kids checking out those authors," Crews said.

Crews, a former middle- and high-school teacher in Burke County, started performing magic six years ago and has combined his skills and love of teaching.

"It's a spooky, mysterious type of show that is themed around those stories and the events and lives of the authors," Crews said.

Crews said that his show uses a variety of tricks

"Its mostly mentalism, which is going to be predictions; reading someone's mind and stuff like that," he said.
