Swimsuit competition questionable for county's fair pageant

Why not a wet T-shirt contest? Is it right to include a swimsuit competition in the family oriented Columbia County Fair's beauty pageant these days?

An interview is great. It lets us see if they have an inner beauty and some brains - perfect for qualifying for a scholarship. An evening gown competition? Sure. It demonstrates a young woman's taste and poise, and promotes the art of being a refined lady.

But a swimsuit competition? Is she less beautiful because her bosom doesn't stack up to the other contestants? Her buttocks aren't round enough? Not her, she's got a spare tire.

What are we telling our young women?
