Evans woman reports attempted robbery

An Evans woman told police Monday afternoon that she pulled her gun on a man who tried to snatch her purse in a grocery store parking lot.

The 60-year-old said that between 1 and 1:30 p.m., she had her trunk open in the Kroger lot, 4355 Washington Road, when she felt a tug on her purse. She turned and saw a man pulling on the strap.

They struggled until she reached inside her purse, pulled out a handgun, pointed it at her assailant and told him to let go. He did, and left in a brown four-door Ford.

Martinez man charged with rape, aiming at deputy

A Martinez man was arrested Monday on charges of raping a girl and pointing a gun at a sheriff's deputy.

Ralph Aaron Hall, 24, of the 300 block of Rockdale Road, was charged with aggravated assault and child molestation. He was being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.

Deputies went to Hall's home because he had made suicide threats and had a firearm. A woman at the door told them Hall was not there.

During a search, a deputy climbed the stairs with his gun drawn. Halfway up the stairs, the deputy saw a man kneeling about three feet away pointing a shotgun at the officer's face.

After more than two hours, Hall was arrested.

Additionally, Hall has been charged with child molestation after a Martinez woman told authorities he had raped her juvenile daughter four times between August 2006 and September 2007. The girl told police the incidents occurred at Hall's home, a Thurmond Lake recreation area and a residence in Grovetown.

Wallet swiped while woman pumped gas

An Augusta woman told police Monday that someone had taken her wallet from atop a Martinez gas pump.

The 18-year-old said she put her wallet onto the pump at the Sprint Food Store, 3701 Washington Road, and drove off without it,
