Incident with stray shows county is 'mighty quick to euthanize'

It seems like Columbia County Animal Care and Control is mighty quick to euthanize.

On Aug. 26, a young female beagle mix wandered into my yard. During the short while she was here, she showed herself to be smart, good-natured and friendly. She wore no collar, but appeared to be well-nourished.

Because I have two dogs already and am not physically well, I called Animal Control. I wish I hadn't.

On Sept. 3, her picture was in The News-Times as "Pet of the Week" to show that she was available for adoption. Less than a week later, by Sept. 9, she was dead.
