Paul Broun shouldn't debate if he feels he has nothing to gain

First it was Barry Paschal "hitting" on U.S. Rep. Paul Broun for not debating his opponent in the upcoming election. And now it's Chris Young in the Sept. 17 News-Times (letter, "Broun has 'retreated from previous position' to avoid debates").

What these two have done is compare apples to oranges. Broun was challenging Jim Whitehead in a Republican primary. His opponent in the upcoming race is a Democrat. If Broun feels he has nothing to gain by debating, then why debate?

Broun has been open and willing to talk to anyone about where he stands on every issue. He has been honest and has the integrity to continue as our representative. Why give the Democratic challenger an opportunity to bloviate when we already have the man for the job?
