County needs services for citizens, not government buildings

I recently received my quarterly stormwater tax bill for $3.82 along with the county newsletter. I wonder how efficient it is to send out a $3.82 bill? Why doesn't the county just add it to the tax bill and be done with it?

But that is not the purpose of my letter. Information on the SPLOST (Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax) was enlightening. It appears that Columbia County is going to spend approximately $17 million on new government buildings. I cannot support buildings for the government complex. How many offices and facilities does the county government require?

I support buildings for the sheriff's office, animal control and recreation facilities. I would suggest putting our government workers in portables and getting our kids out of portables.

Also, we need recycling centers for trash. We closed the landfill and made no arrangements other than private facilities. Recycling efforts to date have been pitiful.

We also need the ramps at Wildwood to be usable. The CSRA will lose several hundred thousand dollars in cancelled bass tournaments next year because the ramps are not usable.

SPLOST revenues should be spent for services for the citizens - not more government office buildings.
