All animal groups would benefit by working together better

Recently I have been concerned about the misunderstanding between Columbia County Animal Care and Control and animal rescue groups. I am not familiar with the problems going on about the shelter or with the commissioners. However, I think it would be beneficial to all groups to work together as much as possible for the welfare and care of animals.

I know that the rescue groups do a terrific job helping animals, often at their own expense. I have 11 groups that take turns going on NBC Augusta's Wednesday 11 a.m. "Adopt a Pet" segment each week. I have become familiar with the dedication of all the groups.

The Aiken County Animal Services and Barnwell County Animal Shelter have a good working relationship with the rescue groups. Recently, the Aiken shelter has started a spay/neuter program and a foster home program. Already this has decreased the number of animals that are euthanized.

I appreciate all the folks and rescue groups who are willing to help homeless animals.
