New clinic location

Carroll Blanchard Davis, public health nurse for the Columbia County Health Department, announces that as of Friday, Aug. 21, 1970, the Martinez-Evans Immunization Clinic will be held in the Columbia County Planning and Development Office, located in the new addition to the Martinez Waterworks Building off of Davis Road.

Seasons open

The Evans High School Knights ruined the debut of Westside High of Augusta in the season-opening football game, beating the Patriots 14-6.

Coach Bill Lewis expects a more aggressive effort out of his team this week as they meet the Spartans from Glenn Hills, a 28-0 winner over Hephzibah last week.

Harlem High School also was victorious in their opener, with the Bulldogs defeating Putnam County by a score of 28-0 behind the leadership of quarterback Richard Poythress and standout play from Jimmy Fleming.

Resolution passed

Harlem Mayor H.A. Groves has signed a resolution calling for the preservation of the U.S. Constitution, and setting aside Sept. 17-23, 1970, for special emphasis on the document.

"We as a nation are opposed to and intend to expose the evils of communism, selfishness, greed and tyranny and all other forces which have as their objectives the overthrow of our constitutional government and the destruction of our way of life," the resolution reads.
