Wade Padgett an outstanding choice

It almost literally could not have happened to a better guy.

When Gov. Sonny Perdue made the call to Wade Padgett Friday afternoon, letting him know he'd be our community's newest Superior Court judge, Perdue could not have made a better appointment.

Padgett, the county's chief magistrate - who, incidentally, is on his way toward unopposed re-election in November - has established himself as a firm and fair jurist.

Perhaps to even more citizens, he's established himself as a caring public official. It's impossible to measure the impact his Teenage Years 101 program has had on our community by educating young people and their parents on the consequences of teen misbehavior.

Padgett will take over in January, replacing Judge Duncan Wheale as he retires. We have every confidence he will do a fine job.
