New principal is named at Harlem

Hilton E. Davidson was appointed principal of Harlem High School by the Columbia County Board of Education. He replaced former principal Eugene Lail.

Davidson graduated from the University of Georgia. He is a member of Who's Who in American Education. He previously held positions as principal of two other schools.

Band to perform

The world-famous Parris Island Marine Band will again provide a band concert as the climax of the current Evenings in the Appleby Garden series on Aug. 27, 1968, at 8:30 p.m. This will be the 10th year the popular band has presented the grand finale of the Appleby Garden series. The concert will be in the garden of the Appleby Branch Library on the corner of Walton Way and Johns Road.

Included in the 21 numbers to be played by the band are such favorites as Navy Hymn, Georgia Girl, Star Spangled Spectacular and Original Dixieland Concerto.

First Lt. Charles R. Pear-son, a former enlisted man with more than 17 years of active service, is now the director of the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Band. He is a graduate of Field Music School at Parris Island.
