United Way plans drive kickoff

Last year, no goal was set for the United Way of the CSRA campaign, yet more than $4.3 million was raised for 60 programs in 19 different health and human service organizations in the Augusta area.

This year, there will be a goal to reach, according to Rina Powell, senior director of resource development for the United Way of the CSRA, and it will be announced at the organization's kickoff luncheon on Aug. 25.

"We are really going to need the community to reach the goal," she said.

Already, volunteers have started soliciting funds in area workplaces through the Pacesetter campaign to prime the pump prior to the kickoff meeting.

Powell said the Pacesetter campaigns have gone well thus far.

About 600 people are expected to attend the luncheon, which will be at the Bell Auditorium. Registration will start at 11:30 a.m. with the luncheon held from noon until 1:30 p.m.

"The kickoff is an opportunity to pull the community together and launch our campaign," she said.

The campaign has a theme of Light the Way.

Registration for the luncheon is $20 per person or $160 for a corporate table of eight. The deadline to register is Aug. 15.
