The following Virginia Military Institute cadets are among the 461 who were recently named to the Deans' List for the second semester of academic year 2007-2008:
Peter J. Borchelt is a recent graduate from Evans, and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel P. Borchelt.
Daniel L. Welsh is a rising junior from Evans, whose major is economics-business. Cadet Welsh's parents are Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Welsh.
Emory graduates
The following received degrees from Emory University in Atlanta, at its 163rd commencement ceremony on May 12, 2008.
Namrata Mruthinti of Evans, daughter of Dr. Satyanarayana S. Mruthinti and Dr. Shyamala Mruthinti, received a bachelor of arts from Emory College; Pallavi Sharma of Augusta, daughter of Dr. Gyanendra Kumar Sharma and Dr. Saroj Bala Sharma of Evans, received a bachelor of science from Emory College; Loren Crawford of Harlem, daughter of Mrs. Donna Marie Crawford received an associate in arts from Oxford College; Kyle Keenly of Evans, son of Kevin Alan Keenly and Trudie Marie Gill-Keenly, received a associate in arts from Oxford College; Teresa Nafarrete of Evans, daughter of Alberto R. Nafarrete and Dr. Cynthia Apostol Nafarrete, received an associate in arts from Oxford College; Navyata Mruthinti of Evans, daughter of Satyanarayana S. Mruthinti and Dr. Shyamala Mruthinti, received a master of public health from the Rollins School of Public Health.
Winston-Salem graduate
Keoshia Worthy of Martinez received a degree in psychology from Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, N.C., at commencement exercises May 10.
Loyola law degree
Kelli Spencer of Martinez received a juris doctor degree from the Loyola University New Orleans College of Law during commencement exercises May 10.
Excelsior grads
The following students have graduated from Excelsior College, an online and distance-learning college located in Albany, N.Y.: Victor L. Hyatt, Vernon R. Praymous and Gregory T. Samuels, all of Evans; and Rasheda N. Roberts, of Grovetown.
Limestone grad
Steven Eric Jones Jr., of Grovetown, received a bachelor of arts degree in criminal justice from Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., during spring commencement exercises.
Camp award
Ryan Rose, a Columbia County 4-H Club member from Martinez, received third place in the knowledge competition at the 2008 Billy Lancaster Forestry Youth Camp in Covington, Ga.
Cobb scholarship
Marc Allred of Martinez has been awarded a scholarship by the Ty Cobb Educational Foundation for the 2008-09 academic year. He is studying for the DMD degree at the Medical College of Georgia.
