The Christ Family Life Center in Grovetown will hold its annual Back-2-School Explosion and Youth Summit this weekend in preparation for the start of the school year.

The 2008 Youth Summit will be at Christ Church of Grovetown at 6 p.m. Friday. Dawn Green, the development coordinator for Christ Family Life Center's homework help and tutoring program, said the Youth Summit is a panel of students, teachers, school administrators, law enforcement personnel and other community activists.

Students and parents are invited to ask questions about school requirements, community concerns and other "life experience" advice.

"The Youth Summit serves as a forum to inform students and parents of requirements, changes and concerns that pertain to the success of the youth in school and in the community," said Green.

"Schools offer a variety of opportunities to inform parents and students of different information," Green said. "However, sometimes they may not be well attended or the interaction and/or responses may not be positive. By having the Youth Summit, we are creating an additional platform for this interaction to take place that is comfortable to all parties -- in a Christian environment."

The Christ Family Life Center will join Grovetown Parks and Recreation to sponsor the second annual Back-2-School Explosion at the Liberty Park Community Center from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday.

The event will include food, games and prizes, and school-age children can receive free school-supply packets with paper, binders, dividers, pencils, markers and other items.
