Boat safety class
The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a boating safety course from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 2 at the Thurmond Dam Visitors Center. The course costs $35 for individuals or $50 for families and satisfies the requirement for Georgia and South Carolina boating education. The Lyndsie Beggs Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 2 at Forest Hills Golf Club. Cost is $75 per player and includes greens and cart fees, lunch and prizes. Deadline to register is Thursday. Augusta native Lyndsie Boggs was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at age 19 and had surgery to remove the tumor. After less than two years, the cancer returned and she is undergoing chemotherapy treatments. Proceeds from the tournament will help pay her medical costs.
