Southern Lighting Gallery has been named one of Home Accents Today's 50 Retail Stars for 2008 by editors of the trade magazine for the home accents industry. It is the only store selected in Georgia and South Carolina.

Lion honored

The Evans Lions Club on June 5 presented charter member Art K. Turner with the Melvin Jones Fellowship. Turner, a longtime Lion and a past president of the Augusta Lions Club, served as the Evans Lions Club's Guiding Lion from when the club first formed as a branch of the Augusta club in 2006. Turner serves as the club's membership chairman.

Thigpen on board

Harlem City Council member John Thigpen was elected to the Board of Directors for the Georgia Municipal Association during the association's annual meeting in Savannah June 24.

Thigpen will serve as first vice president of GMA's 7th District, which includes cities in Columbia, Richmond, McDuffie, Lincoln, Wilkes, Burke, Jenkins, Jefferson, Washington, Glascock, Hancock and Warren counties.
