Applicants seeking to become director

Resumes have started arriving for applicants hoping to fill the soon-to-be vacant position of executive director of the Columbia County Development Authority.

Stan Shepherd, the Authority's board chairman, reported at its meeting Wednesday morning that ads appearing in The Columbia County News-Times , The Augusta Chronicle and on the Web site of the Georgia Economic Developers Association have begun to bring results.

"The resumes are flowing in, a number of good ones and a number of interesting ones," Shepherd said.

The applicants are seeking to replace Zack Daffin, who announced recently that he is leaving the post in mid-July to become a financial planner with the Augusta office of Smith Barney.

The deadline for applying for the position is July 11.

In other actions at the board's session, county attorney Doug Batchelor agreed to draw up the details of an agreement with Augusta Tech regarding temporary easements and a permanent encroachment for the school's Columbia County campus.

The changes in the layout of the Horizon South Industrial Park site near Grovetown are necessary to allow engineers to properly site the project and will have no affect on neighboring tenants, Batchelor said.
