Generous citizens donated more than $54,000 for fire charities

Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue would like to thank all of the local Columbia County businesses and their patrons for supporting the fire department's annual Charity Boot Drive and the second annual MDA Golf Classic.

This year's boot drive supported three incredible organizations that make a tremendous impact in our community: the Southeastern Firefighters Burn Foundation, the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation and the Marty Lyons Foundation. Our golf tournament continues to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Citizens who donated during the Charity Boot Drive and the patrons of the tournament contributed a total of $54,210 in three weeks. While Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue supports Columbia County citizens, it's amazing to see how the community will pull together to support organizations that we are very passionate about.

We recognize there are enemies we cannot battle all on our own, such as childhood illnesses and burn injuries. Our commitment to these charities and the unparalleled support of our community will make an overwhelming difference locally. Thank you for the selfless generosity!
