Columbia Square Theater, movie protesters left behind in history

I always enjoy reading the snippets you have on Columbia County history.

I recently found an article that originally was published in The Augusta Chronicle (about churches protesting the movie, Oh, God, at Columbia Square Theater). At the time I was assistant manager at the theater. Little to our knowledge, The Chronicle put the story on the Associated Press wire, and before we knew it Warner Bros. was calling.

To the best of their knowledge, our little twin theater in Columbia County was the only place the movie was protested. And we sold out the rest of the evening shows that weekend!

I would be willing to bet this was probably the only news item out of Columbia County to hit the wires and even stir Hollywood.

Wouldn't you know it: Today, West Augusta Baptist Church - one of those protesting - is now a funeral home. And my Columbia Square Theater is a music store.
