Local anglers have a chance to win a bass-fishing trip with professional fisherman J. Todd Tucker. The raffle is sponsored by the Thomson-McDuffie County Convention and Visitors Bureau and will benefit the McDuffie Environmental Education Center.

Tickets cost $10 each, and are available at the CVB office at the Thomson Depot. The drawing will be Aug. 2 at the Tom Watson Watermelon Festival.

The winner will have the opportunity to spend a day with Tucker in his boat fishing at Thurmond Lake.

Tucker is a professional bass angler who fishes the FLW and Bassmaster tours. Along with McDuffie County, Columbia County is among the five counties in the Clarks Hill Partnership.

Columbia County also sponsors Tucker separately, and in addition to Columbia County's logo, Tucker's boat soon will sport the Clarks Hill Partnership logo that says "Fish Clarks Hill."

"I spoke with him this morning, and he told me they are working on (the art for the boat) right now, and he can't wait for us to see it," said Elizabeth Vance, the McDuffie CVB director.

Beda Johnson, Columbia County's CVB director, said Tucker won over the other Clarks Hill Partnership counties when he worked the booth at the Bassmaster Classic in February. "Now he works for all of us," Johnson said.

Tucker also will appear at other upcoming events, Johnson said, including Georgia on My Mind Day on July 18 at the Interstate 20 welcome center, and a children's fishing event at the Savannah Rapids headgates July 19.
