Columbia County residents needing insurance advice might find some help Friday.

An insurance investigator with the office of the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner will be at the Columbia County Government Center Building A from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m.

"It is for anybody that has a question or a problem about any kind of insurance policy -- life insurance, health, auto, homeowners," said Wayne Whitaker, a spokesman for the office.

Whitaker said the office regularly sends investigators to meet with the public to offer advice and assistance. The service is free.

The event is designed to provide residents with information needed before purchasing insurance and to avoid common mistakes. In addition to receiving assistance with insurance problems and questions, the investigator will offer complimentary policy reviews for homeowner, automobile and life insurance policies.

"If you want advice on what kind of insurance to buy or how much, they can help you with that, too," Whitaker said. "Any kind of claims settlement issue or just a question; whatever they need help with."

If residents are not able to meet with the investigator, they can call the insurance commissioner's office at (800) 656-2298 between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. for assistance. Residents also can visit www.gainsurance.org, or send a letter detailing problems to John Oxendine, Commissioner of Insurance, State of Georgia, Attention: Consumer Services Division, 2 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, Atlanta, GA 30334.
