No 'vendetta' against Harbin; criticism is exposure of his actions

Some Republicans just don't get it. The local Republicans are becoming a microcosm of the larger Republican Party. They have begun to run away from their principles just as their "spend and borrow" party in Washington has been doing.

In fact, I never expected to live long enough to see the following events unfold in my lifetime: A woman or an African-American president being elected in November. (Sorry - that's what happens when you don't do what you promise.)

A Republican candidate distancing himself from the far-right wing of the party; Republicans at the federal level spending and borrowing like there is no tomorrow; and now, local Republicans forgetting that they made character an issue in politics. ...

No, Richard Netzley (letter, May 18, "Papers have joined 'almost perennial vendetta' against Harbin"), there is no vendetta against state Rep. Ben Harbin. What you are seeing is merely an expose' of his hypocritical actions. What we don't need are politicians who attack others for character flaws but want repentance and forgiveness when they fail us.

And Mr. Netzley is right: Whales can't fly. But it seems the elephants have lost their way. Fortunately, Lee Benedict will not stray from the core principles of the Republican Party. Please join me in voting for him on July 15.
