Summer program

The Columbia County Foundation for Children is holding a summer community service program for students of high-school age willing to complete a minimum of 10 hours from June 3-Aug. 8. Oratory contest

The annual Marion and Lucille Paschall Scholarship Oratorical Contest for high school students, sponsored by the Evita A. Paschall Foundation, will be held at 10 a.m. June 1 at Springfield Baptist Church, 523 Martin Luther King St., in Thomson. For information, call (706) 724-8562.

Memorial service

A Memorial Day program will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Bellevue Memorial Chapel, 4501 Wrightsboro Road, with music from the Columbia County Choral Society and the Fresh Music All Stars.

SCV meets

Jack Marlar, Sons of Confederate Veterans field representative, will discuss "Great Artillery Actions of the War Between the States" at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the meeting of the Maj. Gen. Ambrose Ransom Wright Camp of the SCV in the private dining room of the Side Track Bar and Grill, at 4027 Washington Road.
