Columbia County's eighth annual Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration will be from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Saturday in front of the courthouse in Evans, and will feature performances by the Augusta Children's Chorale, the U.S. Army Signal Corps Band and a fireworks show over Evans at dusk. The Columbia County Board of Elections will hold voter registration drives from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at Kmart in Martinez, and 6-9 p.m. Saturday at Columbia County's Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration in Evans. The Columbia County Foundation for Children is holding a summer community service program for students of high school age willing to complete a minimum of 10 hours from June 3 to Aug. 8. Applications are due by Friday for the annual Marion and Lucille Paschall Scholarship Oratorical Contest for high school students, sponsored by the Evita A. Paschall Foundation. The contest will be held at 10 a.m. June 1 at Springfield Baptist Church, 523 Martin Luther King St., in Thomson. First prize is $600, second is $300, and third is $100.
