Military newsmakers

Army National Guard Pvt. Clinton D. Cash has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, in Columbia. He is the son of Jo Cash of Grovetown, and a 2007 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Army 1st Lt. Samuel A. Matta has deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, to support the mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He is regularly assigned to William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. Matta, an emergency room nurse, has served in the military for three years. He is the son of Chad and Shannon Matta of Martinez.

Air Force Airman 1st Class Donald S. Bennett Jr. has graduated from the Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance Apprentice Course at the Naval Base Ventura County, Port Hueneme, Calif. Bennett's wife, Tiffany, is the daughter of Todd T. and Robin Root of Harlem. He is a 2007 graduate of Harlem High School.

Air Force Tech. Sgt. Tommy B. Tallent has deployed to Southwest Asia to support the missions of Operations Enduring Freedom and/or Iraqi Freedom. Technical Sergeant Tallent, a security forces flight chief, is regularly assigned to the 43rd Security Forces Squadron at Pope Air Force Base, Fayetteville, N.C. The technical sergeant has served in the military for 16 years. He is the son of Boyd J. and Paula M. Tallent of Thomson, and graduated in 1990 from Lincoln County High School.

Army Pfc. Ceshera L. Powell , a 2007 graduate of Glenn Hills High School and daughter of Frederick Powell, of Hephzibah, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia.
