The Columbia County Library is inviting teens to showcase their creativity through a photography contest.
//
The library's Teen Photo Contest, designed for anyone between the ages of 12 to 19, is free to enter. "The photos can be of anything," said Christy Iler, the county's young adult librarian. "I want to make sure the teens particularly feel like they can be as creative as they want to be."
Iler said there is no limit to the number of photographs that contestants can enter, but entries should consist of a 5-by-7-inch or larger photograph.
The photographer's name, address, phone number, e-mail and school must be attached somewhere on the photograph, Iler said.
Teens interested in entering the contest can call the library to register. Photographs can be dropped off at the library's reference desk no later than May 30.
Winners will be announced at 2 p.m. June 1 at the library, and prizes will be awarded for first, second and third places.
The photographs will be on display downstairs in the young adult section for a few days, Iler added.
Iler, who will serve as a contest judge alongside a local amateur photographer, said this is the first year she has organized the contest .
The contest is open to area teens and is not limited to Columbia County residents.
"It's really just a way for us to get in touch with them and get them involved in the library," Iler said. "That way we can find where most of our patrons are coming from."
