Kindergarten event
Evans Elementary School will hold a "kindergarten roundup" at 6:30 p.m. Thursday with information for parents and activities for prospective kindergartners, who might also be registered that evening. Call the school at (706) 863-1202.
Voter drives
The Columbia County Board of Elections will hold voter registration drives from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday at the IGA in Harlem, May 17 at the Circle K in Appling, May 24 at Kmart in Martinez, and 6-9 p.m. May 24 at Columbia County's Red, White and Blue Veterans Celebration in Evans. June 15 is the deadline for registration for the July 15 primary election. For information, call (706) 868-3355.
Alzheimer's lunch
Dr. Tom Hartney will discuss behaviors during a free Augusta Alzheimer's Association lunch program from noon-1 p.m. Tuesday at the Medical College of Georgia Alumni Center, 919 15th St. Reservations are due by noon Monday by calling (706) 721-0609.
Scholarships
The annual Fort Gordon Sergeants Major Association scholarship essay competition will be held through May 31 with three $500 scholarships available to Augusta-area high-school graduates. They do not need to be affiliated with the military to apply. Applications are available from U.S. Army Community Services, Room 224, Darling Hall on Chamberlain Ave., or online at sergeantsmajor.com at SMA Essay Competition. Chorale concert
The Da Capo and Chorale choirs of the Augusta Children's Chorale will perform in a free concert 7 p.m. Monday at Sacred Heart Cultural Center in appreciation of community support for the Chorale's recent trip to New York.
