I know there are many things to be thankful for in Columbia County: schools, businesses, quality of life, good jobs, etc.
However, speed bumps don't make my list. I know they promote safe driving. I even had an altercation with a motorist one Halloween night when he and his date almost ran over the kids I was escorting - at the very spot where a speed bump is today.
My concern is that the ones now installed don't slow down traffic - they stop it.
Other speed bumps in the county require motorists to slow down. This is not the case in my neighborhood. Unless we want to leave parts of our vehicle behind, we must now come to a complete stop, ascend and descend this peak and then start up again. I have gone over logs on back roads more smoothly.
Yes, speed bumps might be necessary. But let's use common sense - maybe require the engineers of these ill-designed monstrosities to drive over them to and from work (18 times a day, in my case).
