Knights pick up win after losing 2 of 3

Evans High School baseball coach Ricky Beale wasn't pleased with the way his team finished the first part of the season. He vowed things would change after the Knights lost two of their final three games before opening region play against Statesboro on Tuesday.

Evans responded by beating the Blue Devils 6-0 at home.

The fans buzzed early in the game as Statesboro pitcher Tony Hill's fastball touched 91. But the senior struggled with his control in the second inning and walked in two Knights runs. Another scored during the inning on an RBI single from Teddy Leverett.

Evans pitcher Kevin Millward improved to 3-1 with the win.

Harlem 21, Glenn Hills 0

The Bulldogs pounded 17 hits while allowing Glenn Hills none as coach Jimmie Lewis' team won its Region 3-AAA opener Tuesday.

Three Harlem pitchers combined to shut down Glenn Hills during a game that lasted only three innings.

Mike Leverett, Pat Gamblin and Trey Crain each homered for the Bulldogs, who improved to 7-3 on the season.

Greenbrier 10, ARC 0

The Wolfpack opened Region 3-AAAA play by finishing the Musketeers in five innings.

Greenbrier pitcher Brantley Yu picked up his first win of the season, allowing two hits while pitching all five innings. T.D. Davis and Ryan Cato homered for the Wolfpack. Coach Rodney Holder's team improved to 9-0 overall.

Lakeside 9, Burke County 3

The Panthers improved to 3-7 with a win against the Bears on Tuesday.

Lakeside's Preston Pye and Chaston Weaver each went 2-for-4 with two RBI. Panthers pitcher Chris Morris picked up his first win of the season.

Augusta Christian 13, Richard Winn 4

The Lions bounced back from a rough weekend to rout Richard Winn on Tuesday, improving to 4-7. Augusta Christian lost two games March 15 after leading both.
