For the first time in at least five years, the Columbia County Choral Society members intend to sing what they want to hear.

The choral society will present its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church in Evans. The members selected the music to be played at the "Singers' Choice" concert.

"It's just a mixture of sacred and secular music," said Susan Osborn, the executive director of the choral society.

The choral society performs two or three concerts a year, Osborn said, but has not held a "Singers' Choice" concert in the five years that she's been with the choral group.

In addition to the main performance, solo acts and ensemble presentations will be a part of the show.

"We're doing some pieces that they did in the very first concert held back in 1997 when the choral group was first formed," Osborn said.

The chorus has sung in numerous concerts in Columbia and Richmond counties, she said, and consists of about 35 members.

Tickets can be purchased at the door on the night of the concert for $15.

Tickets for students and senior citizens are available for $10, and anyone with a military I.D. can attend the performance for free.
