Helen Cave has a full ride to college, and, as one of seven children, she's grateful for the honor.

The Augusta Christian Schools senior, who was named the school's STAR student recently, said she knew that her SAT score would be acceptable to colleges to which she was planning to apply.

"I was pleased with my score," said Helen, the oldest child of Mike and Beth Cave. "But I knew it wasn't incredible."

Although her score didn't get her the Columbia County STAR Student honor, it was enough to earn her the top honor of her senior class.

As the STAR student, Helen was able to select a teacher for the STAR teacher honor. She chose her advanced placement calculus teacher, Jack Hook.

"He's just so exciting," said Helen, who was home-schooled before enrolling at Augusta Christian in sixth grade. "He's the one who's given me the drive to be a math teacher."

Helen likely will attend North Greenville University in Tigerville, S.C., on a trustee scholarship, which is a full-tuition scholarship.

"I've been accepted to North Greenville, Covenant College and Berry College," she said. "But I'll probably choose North Greenville."

Helen said she would like to minor in vocal performance. She returned two weeks ago from her final All-State Chorus competition.

"It was incredible," she said. "It's always incredible, but it was kind of sad to walk across the stage for the last time."
