Millie Rogers, president of the Georgia State Federation of Republican Women, will be the speaker at 6 p.m. Thursday at the meeting of the Greater Columbia County Republican Women at the Jones Creek Club House. Garden series

The Columbia County Extension Service Gardening at Lunch series for 2008 continues from 12:10-12:45 p.m. today at the Columbia County library with extension agent Charles Phillips conducting a session on handling late freezes. For information, call (706) 868-3413.

Youth series

Gospel Water Branch Baptist Church, 703 Furys Ferry Road, in Evans, will hold a leadership workshops for youths ages 13-17 from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, and on March 15 and 29. Refreshments will be served and door prizes will be given. Call (706) 860-7091.

Heart and Sole

The second annual Heart and Sole 5k run/walk to raise funds for the MCG Children's Medical Center Heart Program will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday at MCG, with a celebration at Enterprise Mill at 7 p.m. For information, go to www.heartandsoleinc.org.

Nature crafting

Book fair

Lakeside Middle School will hold a book fair in the media center from 7:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 10-14, with family night from 6-8 p.m. March 11.

Chamber event

The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce after-hours networking session will be held from 5-7 p.m. March 17 at Adventure Crossing. The facility will unveil its new laser tag facility with a "challenge" exhibition match between teams led by Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver and Columbia County Commission Chairman Ron Cross.
