Columbia County Planning Commission Chairwoman Deanne Hall officially announced Tuesday her intention to run for a county commission seat.

From the foyer of the Columbia County Library, Hall, 42, said she hopes to replace long-serving District 3 Commissioner Diane Ford, who is not seeking re-election.
"I believe District 3 is ready for a new voice, a new perspective and someone who is committed to you and the future of this county," she said.
A five-year resident of Evans, Hall once served on the county's greenspace committee and has belonged to the planning commission for four years. She has chaired the zoning board for two years.
"She does not need on-the-job training," Ford said in her endorsement of Hall.
Hall said her tenure on the planning commission qualifies her to deal with the county's "most significant issue," growth management.
"The continued smart growth in District 3 necessitates representation on the board of commissioners by someone who understands the Growth Management Plan and will represent the interests of District 3 residents," Hall said.
Another issue Hall said she is qualified to govern is instituting "smart" commercial growth.
"The reason I wanted to announce in front of the library is to show how important vision and positive community growth is," she said. "It took over 13 years to move the library from a small trailer to the beautiful building it is today, but we did it and we need to continue to develop and fund the right projects for the county and I am the right person to make sure this happens."
