Bands sought

The Lakeside High School Battle of the Bands, which will be held at 7 p.m. March 8, is seeking contestants. At least one member of each band must be a Columbia County student. Application fee is $25, and the contest is limited to six bands.

Concert series

The Music Evolution concert series at the Columbia County Amphitheater in Evans begins 5 p.m. March 16 with performances by American Idol runner-up Bo Bice, along with Crossin' Dixon and Patrick Blanchard.

School raffle

Stevens Creek Elementary School is selling raffle tickets for $100 each for a chance to win $5,000 and other prizes. Humane Society fund-raiser set

Evans High School senior Matt Watson is organizing a fund-raiser to benefit the Columbia County Humane Society from 7-11 p.m. Friday at Augusta's Elks Lodge.

Tickets cost $8 in advance or $10 at the door, and include food, beverages and entertainment by Ballroom in Motion.

The county is hoping to create a cleaner environment by stepping up an anti-littering campaign.
