Navy Seaman Recruit Danielle S. Brown , daughter of Elizabeth A. and Hoise S. Brown of Martinez, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Brown is a 2006 graduate of Lakeside High School.
Army Pfc. Stacy R. Beasley has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia. She is a 2002 graduate of Lakeside High School and daughter of Patricia Davis of Martinez.
Marine Corps Pfc. Carl D. Anderson , son of Carl D. and stepson of Brenda C. Anderson of Harlem, recently completed 12 weeks of basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.
Duties begin
Army National Guard Sgt. Tony M. Winston has been mobilized and activated for deployment to an undisclosed location in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Winston, a human resources specialist with 10 years of military service, is normally assigned to the Joint Force Headquarters, Camp Robinson, North Little Rock, Ark. He is the son of Thomas M. Winston of Hephzibah, and Maria D. Harrison of Martinez.
Army Capt. Joseph E. Bingham has arrived for duty at Soto Cano Air Base, Honduras, to serve as a member of Joint Task Force-Bravo.
The task force is composed of almost 600 U.S. military members and more than 650 U.S. and Honduran civilians who work in six area units: Joint Staff, Army Forces, Air Force Forces, Joint Security Forces, Medical Element and 1st Battalion, 228th Aviation Regiment, a helicopter unit. The units conduct military-to-military training, execute counter-narcotics trafficking operations and human trafficking deterrence, and engage in civil affairs activities in conjunction with U.S. interagency partners. Bingham is an emergency nurse with 16 years of military service. He is the son of Doris A. Parks of Brookings, Ore. and the stepson of Kirk R. Mellecker and Caryn Mellecker, of Evans.
Army 1st Lt. Samuel A. Matta has deployed to Baghdad, Iraq, to support the mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom. The soldier is regularly assigned to William Beaumont Army Medical Center, Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas. Matta, an emergency room nurse, has served in the military for three years. He is the son of Chad and Shannon Matta, of Martinez.
VMI Dean's List
Peter J. Borchelt , of Evans, has been named to the fall 2007 Deans' List at Virginia Military Institute. Borchelt is a senior majoring in mechanical engineering and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joel P. Borchelt of Evans.
Daniel L. Welsh , of Evans, has been named to the fall 2007 Deans' List at Virginia Military Institute. Welsh is a sophomore majoring in economics and business and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael L. Welsh, of Evans.
