Most knew that a Michelle Obama inane utterance was just a matter of time. We all know what she said - this is the first time she can be proud to be an American. If she said something along those lines during a heated exchange, it can be explained away. But her ranting was in the form of a scripted speech, which, in my view, shows her for the narcissistic elitist that she is.
Let's see, Michelle grew up, received an elementary and secondary school education, and then went to and graduated from Princeton (bachelor of arts in sociology - surprise, surprise) and Harvard Law School. Her husband went to Harvard Law, too. She became an administrator at the University of Chicago. She gave birth to two children who have even more opportunities than she had at their ages. She is married to a U.S. senator who was elected by the people in a democratic election. In what other countries and occupied territories would this be remotely possible?
Because Michelle lives in Illinois, if she were to go to O'Hare Airport in Chicago, which I believe is a hub for American Airlines, and catch a flight to Columbia, Costa Rica, or Cuba, I'll buy the one-way ticket for her. Let's see what opportunities she has there.
She is an embarrassment to people with common sense, and, reflective of the hippies of decades ago who cried, whined and whimpered about the few things that they were not permitted to do as opposed to expressing a modicum of gratitude for having the freedom to do a million and one things that people in other countries could only dream of doing, all the while dancing butt-naked around a bonfire singing "It's my life and I'll do what I want" and throwing another American flag on the fire when the flame grew low.
Michelle's almost-Plymouth Rock speech is appalling for a first lady candidate. The Obamas need to come back to reality and separate themselves from the hype of their speeches - because that's all they are, speeches. This is planet earth, 2008 A.D. This is not the streets of Chicago or Harvard's Student Union. If Barack thinks that he can sit across a table from Vladimir Putin, Kim Jong-Il, Fidel Castro, or Mahmoud Ahmadinejad with that arrogant theater face talking about hope and "yes we can," and have them take him seriously, he needs to think again. The job for which he is applying is not one in which he can receive on-the-job training without disastrous consequences. "He who lives upon hope shall die fasting" - Ben Franklin
