Band director to be guest conductor
Norman E. Moore Jr., director of the Evans High School band, will be one of two guest conductors during the Feb. 19 Mid-Winter Concert by the Augusta Community Concert Band.
The concert, which begins at 3:30 p.m. and will be held in the auditorium of Lawton B. Evans School on Walton Way in Augusta, will include show tunes as well as traditional concert band music.
Moore will direct the March and Procession of Bacchus by Leo Delbes, as arranged by Eric Osterling, and selections from the popular musical, 1776 by Sherman Edwards, as arranged by Frank Erickson.
Connor wins first-place honor
Allen Connor won first place honor in BABCO's product competition held at the recent Junior Achievement Management Convention in Greenville, S.C.
Allen, whose product was a vignette photo, is BABCO's vice president of personnel and the first member of sponsored company to sell more than $100 worth of products since the beginning of the model company's year.
He is a junior at Harlem High School and a pianist for the Philadelphia United Methodist Church. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Connor.
Chapters celebrate FBLA Week
The Evans and Harlem High School chapters of the Future Business Leaders of America Club are joining thousands of other FBLA members across the county in celebrating National FBLA week from Feb. 13-17.
The two Columbia County High School chapters took part in activities sponsored by Butler High School's FBLA chapter to help kick-off National FBLA week. One of the activities was a breakfast at the Executive House in downtown Augusta last Friday morning.
