In honor of American Heart Health Month, University Health Care System is offering residents a chance to check the health of their heart.

The hospital, along with Columbia County Community Events, is holding a Heart Health Fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Columbia County Library in Evans.
"It is something that University does every year to promote awareness of heart health month and to help area residents be aware of their cardiovascular health," Steve Crawford, a hospital spokesman, said.
The event is free. Several screenings will be available and performed on site, including blood sugar, blood pressure, and lipid profile including HDL, LDL, triglycerides and total cholesterol.
Crawford said no medical records or pre-planned activities, such as fasting, are necessary for the tests.
"If you want to have a cholesterol test, you have to be willing to give a little blood," Crawford said.
Heart-healthy recipes, information packets and one-on-one cardiovascular counseling also will be available.
"Nurses will be on-site to talk about your diet, health, weight," Crawford said.
