Jazz series begins

Columbia County's "Sounds of Jazz" concert series will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday with a performance by Mood Indigo at the Jabez Sanford Hardin Performing Arts Center. Books wanted
Friends of Columbia County Libraries are seeking donations of used books. The books are sold in the library store, with funds going to new books and library programs. Donations are accepted at the Evans and Euchee Creek libraries. Call Elige Hickman at (706) 863-2880.
Nature walk
Reed Creek Park will hold a nature walk for accompanied preschoolers from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. For information, call (706) 210-4027.
Chamber meeting
The Columbia County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual meeting Monday, with a business showcase and VIP reception at 4:30 p.m. and dinner at6:30 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel.

Family night
South Columbia Elementary School, 325 McCormick Road, in Martinez, will hold a Family Health and Fitness Night from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday. Participating businesses will have booths for all ages to demonstrate the health and fitness services that are available in the community. Admission is free.
GOP breakfast
Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins will be the guest speaker at 9 a.m. Saturday at Fatz Cafe at the Columbia County Republican Party breakfast. No reservations are required; breakfast costs $6.
Correction
A Jan. 20 story in The Columbia County News-Times should have noted that Columbia County Commissioner Lee Anderson was the first person to announce his intention to seek the Georgia House District 117 seat. Anderson announced in September. The News Times regrets the error.
