Kelley appointed to Naval Academy
Phillip Kelley, son of Mr. and Mrs. Evan L. Kelley of Harlem, has received a congressional appointment to the Untied States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Md.
Phillip is a Harlem High School athlete and scholar, and received notification of the appointment by letter from 10th District Rep. Paul Brown.
He has made many scholarly and extracurricular achievements. He is president of the senior class, vice president of the Beta Club and has represented his school as a FFA speaker.
He is also President of the Young Peoples Baptist Sunday School and Intermediate Baptist Training Union, and is chairman of the board of directors of the City Tennis Club.
Harlem PTA plans meeting
The first PTA meeting of the new year will be held Thursday, Jan. 5 at 8 p.m.
The Rev. Dan Brewster, pastor of the Thomson Methodist Church, will bring the program in a continuation of the 1960-1961 theme of Stepping Stones to Success. Brewster will have "A Good Home" as his topic.
Harlem quintet bows to alumni
The Harlem High varsity basketball team lost 48-43 against Harlem Alumni last Monday evening in a benefit game for the Columbia County TB fund and to Harlem High School.
The girls alumni team were also victorious with a final score of 27-17 against the varsity team. Alumnus Jackie Eubanks had the high point total for the game, scoring 13 points, and Claudia Tucker made 8 points for the varsity team.
