Evans boys soccer coach Brian Killips and teacher Teresa Davis are coordinating the effort to hold a five kilometer run as a fund raiser for the school's soccer program and student council.

"It started when my wife and I got into running two years ago," Killips said. "We thought this would be a good idea for a fund raiser."

The festivities will begin Saturday at 9 a.m. A kids half-mile fun run will take place on the track surrounding the Evans football stadium, and the 5K run will follow.

Killips said the race will start on the Evans track, circle around to the front of the school and continue onto Cox Road for almost two kilometers before retracing back to the finish line at the football stadium.

"We'll have those roads marked off for a while," Killips said. "It helped to have a public safety officer here at the school to coordinate all that."

The event will have several different age divisions with prizes ranging from massage packages to pastries and fruit. Killips said every runner will get a race T-shirt. Awards will be given out to the top three male and female finishers along with a best costume award.

"I expect some of my soccer players to compete for it," Killips said. "I know there will be some people from the Augusta Striders there too."

Early registration to participate in the race ended Monday, but race day registration will take place from 7:45-8:45 a.m. Saturday. For a brochure with more information, go to www1.ccboe.net/ehs or www.AugustaStriders.com.
