Former Evans High School volleyball and basketball standout Lauren Middleton wasted little time in making her presence felt at the college level.
//
After a stellar career at Evans, the 5-foot-11 Middleton signed a volleyball scholarship with Faulkner University (NAIA) in Montgomery, Ala.
Despite playing on a team with nine upperclassmen, Middleton quickly earned a starting spot with Faulkner. Her consistent play helped lead Faulkner to a 24-14 record and an 8-3 mark in the Southern States Athletic Conference.
The Eagles' 24 overall wins was more than any team in the SSAC.
Middleton played in 132 of 143 matches this season.
Along the way, she managed to finish fifth on the team with 189 kills. She also finished fourth on the team with a .203 kill percentage and made just 78 errors all season. Her best outing came Oct. 19 in a five-game match vs. Reinhardt College. She posted a career-high 12 kills and made just two errors.
Ho's stellar season helps Harvard win Ivy League
All season I have tried to keep readers updated on the fantastic season being turned in by former Evans tailback Cheng Ho. Now a sophomore at Harvard, Ho blossomed this season into one of the top running backs in the Ivy League.
Ho finished the season with 722 yards on 152 carries. He also posted seven touchdowns and an impressive 4.8 yards per carry. He had four 100-yard games, including three in a row at one point. He also caught 17 passes for an additional 145 yards. He led Harvard in both rushing and all-purpose yards.
Harvard started slow at 1-2, but the emergence of Ho helped the Crimson reel off seven consecutive wins to end the season. More importantly, they were a perfect 7-0 in the Ivy League to claim the school's 12th conference title. They buried previously unbeaten Yale 37-6 in the season finale to seal the conference crown and ruin their archrival's chance at a perfect season.
