Service member news

- Eugene E. Moore, aviation structural mechanic first class, USN, son of Mrs. Allene Moore of Harlem, is serving with Airborne Early Warning Barrier Squadron, Pacific at the Naval Air Station, Barber's Point, Hawaii.

- Army Recruit James E. Boyd, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.L. McZilkey live in Harlem, completed the eight-week lineman course Nov. 18, 1960, at the Southeastern Signal School, Fort Gordon.

The 19-year-old soldier entered the Army last June and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He is a 1959 graduate of Harlem High School.

- Ross W. Powell, seaman apprentice, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Powell of Grovetown, is serving with Fleet Air Wing Five at Naval Air Station, Norfolk, Va.

New UDC president

The United Daughters of the Confederacy held its annual convention in Richmond, Va., in November and elected as President General of the United Daughters of the Confederacy Mrs. Robert Bachman of Washington, D.C.

Mrs. Bachman is the sister of Mrs. Francis W. Tracey of Harlem, and is a frequent visitor to Columbia County.

She is a native of Tennessee and traces her ancestry to the colonial period. Her grandfather was a captain in the Alabama infantry.
